Transnational Education (TNE) has been growing rapidly in recent years following closely in line with the dramatic increase in student mobility internationally. Driven by rising living standards and the emergence of new middle classes in emerging and developing markets on the one hand, and higher education institutions in advanced countries facing financial pressures and the demand to internationalise on the other, it is clear that growing numbers of students are studying via TNE provision. Available in many forms, TNE is also stimulated by other factors such as the desire of some countries to become regional education hubs, stringent student visa restrictions and rapid advances in information and communications technology.

While undergraduate degrees make up the largest segment of TNE, there is a considerable demand for postgraduate TNE which has been growing faster than undergraduate enrolment in some markets. As data collection on TNE continues to improve, this special report examines trends in TNE at the postgraduate level in key markets such as the UK and Australia, and provides insights from the students’ perspective. Motivations for students undertaking such study, factors influencing their choices and satisfaction levels, based on secondary sources and proprietary research also features. With the growing popularity of TNE provision, this report provides an invaluable resource for institutions and organisations looking to develop and expand their education offerings beyond their borders.
