News alerts - Share of female enrolments in economics studies is falling
Very few women have reached the most senior ranks in the economics profession and the lack of women in leadership positions raises a red flag for the quality of Australia’s economic decision-making. With those in senior roles recognising the problem, there is a movement advocating for improving the gender balance in economic leadership roles. However, it has become apparent there is a problem at the source as the share of female enrolments in economics studies at high school and university is falling.
